Bulgaria - A lot of music for just a pittance

Aktualizováno: 10. 9. 2018

My friend and I decided to start our travel blog and we chose our joint holiday in Primorsko and Kiten for that. With three other buddies, we flied through travel agency and it turned out as a good choice. Two cars would make our way back and forth costing something about 140 Euro and the transport would last much longer. After arriving in Burgas, the bus took us to the hotel Jalp in Primorsko, where we were accommodated.

When you will travel to Bulgaria, you will notice their laziness and carelessness just after first contact with local people. However, some of them are good-natured people and will be glad to talk with you a few words. Bulgarian language is a Slavic language, but they understand English pretty well. There is also an English translation in almost every restaurant.

The exchange rate of 1 Leva is around 0.5 Euro. There is a lot of exchange offices in Primorsko, so buying Levas will be OK after arrival. Levas can be changed here for Euros, Dollars, Pounds, and even more currencies.

The taste of a local beer is similar to Czech and German beer and the price ranges are from 1 to 2.5 Leva for a tin beer and from 2 to 3.5 Leva for a draft beer. A special edition of Playboy magazine costs 5.95 Leva, cigarettes 5 - 6.5 Leva. The local cuisine offers, besides fish and steaks, typical Italian, Greek and Chinese food. The water is drinkable here, but it may be different from yours, so try it first slowly if you don’t want to have some sudden problem while sunbathing on the beach.

There are two beaches in Primorsko - South and North - and a concrete way between them leads by the sea. Both are sandy and all-day guarded by lifeguards who hang the flags (green, yellow, red) according to the danger of the waves. Of course, they don‘t want anybody in the water to overestimate their strengths so the whistling of their whistles may be as annoying and limiting to you as the mosquito swarms in the evening. You will definitely need a repellent as soon as you arrive. You will get some for 5 - 10 Leva. Some of the beach bars are alive until early morning.

Nightlife is quite varied, music from bars, attractions, night clubs and fast foods flows into the town, but only until midnight when most of the life in the lighted streets slowly dies. The local women are beautiful, and the tourists as well. For the female readers of our blog I have to add that the local men are athletic and usually with short cut, just normal Bulgarians.

There is a lot of possibilities for all sorts of activities, such as paddle boats, car rent, or a boat trip, which I have tried. Some boat trips need to be booked at least a day before. The voyage takes two hours and you pay 25 Leva for it. You can check some photos from the cruise on our Instagram. We also borrowed electric trikes. For half an hour you will pay 10 Leva, for one hour 15 Leva. Thanks to their top speed of 35 km/h you will not regret it.

On the fourth and eighth day of our holiday we were chilling in Kiten. There is a train for transporting tourists on the route Primorsko - Kiten, which is 5 km long. You will pay 3 Leva for the ride and that will definitely pay off. The beaches in Kiten are shorter, but they offer for example a beach bar with sjoelbak, inflatable castles in the water and some other funny stuff. From the night life I have to mention mainly the water bar Zangador. There is no train riding at night, so you will probably have to walk a few miles back to Primorsko.

In the second half of the vacation we were beginning to understand that 10 days will be enough. Our neighbour recommended us one Chinese restaurant where they serve 600 grams meals, and I can tell you that in the end it was a pure gluttony. During the last days of our holiday, we mainly devoted ourselves to dancing to the song Biala Roza.

Bulgaria is a beautiful country where, unlike the Southwest European states, you do not have to look at the prices so much. The whole thing costed each one of us about 700 Euro in average. On the bad side the nature of some local people is really ignorant, yet we claim that this is a destination which you should not overlook when choosing your holiday destination. You can make sure in our first vlog below. If you have any advices, comments or suggestions, let us know in the comment section.
